"State of Dread" ist eine Audio-Arbeit in zwei Teilen: ein Effekt-Zyklus und ein Sprech-Zyklus.
Der Sprech-Zyklus ist aus Interviews aufbereitet, die von allen drei Künstler*innen mit Freund*innen und Bekannten geführt wurden. In diesem Teil der Arbeit hört man die Interviewten wie sie eine immer wiederkehrende und tiefgreifende Empfindung zu beschreiben versuchen, die manchmal mit bestimmten Ereignissen im Leben assoziiert ist, aber auch wie ein unwillkommener Hausgeist in der Nacht erscheint, ohne bestimmte Absicht, mit keinem bestimmten Gedanken, keiner bestimmten Vorstellung verbunden.
Diese subjektiven Kämpfe, um mit einem kollektiv eingestandenen Gefühl zurechtzukommen, sind im Kontext eines kontinuierlichen Effekt-Zyklus' zu hören. Hier, aus einem dauermurmelnden Unterstrom, tauchen viele verschiedene Hörereignisse auf und fallen wieder zurück, den Eindruck einer kaum enthaltenen Bösartigkeit vermittelnd, die in einem unaufhörlichen Leerlaufmechanismus beherbergt ist, wie ein Bewusstsein oder ein Ökosystem.
Gec, Stones und Wilson sind in Großbritannien ansässig und arbeiten seit 2013 zusammen. Sie haben alle auch individuelle Tätigkeiten, die zusammen Galerie- und Orts-spezifische Kunst, akademische Forschung, Schreiben und Musik umfassen.

Andrew Stones was born in Sheffield, England. He has worked as an artist since 1984, exhibiting widely. His video, audio and mixed-media installations often explore the coexistence of artistic and scientific thinking, via the cultural manifestations of each broad field. His many awards and commissions include a NESTA Fellowship (2001-04) which enabled video shoots at major science establishments, including Arecibo Radio Observatory (Puerto Rico), and CERN (Switzerland/France). He holds a PhD (Slade School of Art/UCL 2011) and writes on subjects related to the core concerns of his work. His individual work is archived at www.andrewstones.com. Louise K. Wilson was born in Aldershot, England. She has worked as an artist since 1987. Her installations, live events, sound and video works often involve the participation of individuals from industry, museums, medicine and the scientific community. Recent exhibitions include ‘States of Mind: Tracing the edges of consciousness’ at the Wellcome Collection, London (2016), ‘Submerged: Silent Service’ (Ohrenoch, Berlin, 2015) and ‘Topophobia’ (Danielle Arnaud Gallery, London; Bluecoat Gallery, Liverpool and Spacex Gallery, Exeter, 2012). She is a lecturer (Art and Design) at the University of Leeds and holds a PhD from the University of Derby. Her individual work is archived at www.lkwilson.org.
Stefan Gec was born in Huddersfield in 1958, his practice utilises carefully sourced materials from specific times and places, often referencing technologies both past and present to investigate ideas of transformation through re-positioning and context. Gec completed his post-graduate studies at the Slade School of Art, UCL, 1991-93 and was a recipient of the Hamlyn Award for visual arts in 1995. In 2003 he was shortlisted for the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square, London. His work is in numerous collections both nationally and internationally.
