Sound Cape
Sound Installation (2011, UA)
Kyoka works as a musician/composer in Berlin and Tokyo.
She is known for her chaotic, direct approach and heavy-rough sound resulting in a broken pop-beat with experimental yet danceable rhythms.
Kyoka grew up in Japan, having piano, flute and shamisen lessons during her childhood. While listening and recording radio shows to tape she became attracted by the possibilities of scratching tapes back and forth and soon she begun to use the tape recorder as her toy, cutting and editing and producing first rough sounds.
In 1999 she started to explore the potential of synthesizers/computers and during her stay in Los Angeles from 2004 to 2008 she enjoyed some first success when her songs charted at local radiostations.
In 2008 her first mini-album “ufunfunfufu” was released on Berlin based onpa))))) label and the song “ybeybe” was included on the “achtung music! new berlin talent” compilation by Berlin Music Commission. In 2009 “ufunfunfufu” reached the Top 10 of the electronic music album charts by Music Magazine, Japan.
Her second CD “2ufunfunfufu” released in 2009 was one of the top sellers among the “imported album” section at Tower Records, Tokyo. A third album, “3ufunfunfufu”, was only digital released in 2010 and for 2011 a 12_EP on prestigious german label raster-noton is expected soon.
