Manuella Blackburn on 'Kitchen Alchemy':
While composing this piece, I began to think of the analogy of alchemy and its applicability to the compositional process of acousmatic music. I wanted to create something seemingly precious and elaborate that showed no similarity to the ordinary source sounds of kitchen utensils and appliances.
Manuella Blackburn
was born in London in 1984 and is now living in South Manchester. She gained a Distinction for a Master’s degree in electroacoustic music at the University of Manchester in 2006, and was awarded the Peter J Leonard Composition Prize. In September 2006 she began a PhD at the University of Manchester, studying with Dr Ricardo Climent and Dr David Berezan's supervision.
Manuella together with Diana Simpson, form the Splice Girls duo that has been performing together for almost a year in live laptop improvisations.
