survival of the fittest (balzgesänge im spätkapitalismus)
(2014, World Premiere)
by Matthias Kranebitter
Matthias Kranebitter on 'survival of the fittest':
'survival of the fittest' is a list of darwinistically selected songs from commercials, television shows and pop song samples. An attempt of order in the motley chaos of the world.
Matthias Kranebitter studied electroacoustic composition in Vienna with Dieter Kaufmann and German Toro-Perez, media composition with Klaus-Peter Sattler, postgradual composition in Amsterdam and in Graz with Alexander Stankovski.
His music addresses aspects of our media society and trash culture with their information flood. It features a high degree of density and heterogeneity, involving of various (un)musical materials as dehierarchization and relativization of dogmas and taboo.
His works have been awarded 1st prize Gustav Mahler competition, 1st prize Project Holland Symfonia Gaudeamus Music Week, Impuls Kompositionspreis Graz and Publicity Award of Austro Mechana. For 2015 he received a scholarship from Junge Akademie at Akademie der Künste Berlin.
