The ingredients the Sound Cake is made of:
The Sound Cake is made of audio recordings from the shopping center "Neukölln Arcaden" in Berlin-Neukölln.
"Welcome to shopping, fun and recreational enjoyment in the middle of the county. On 5 floors a colourful world of experience with trading, catering, services, cinema, fitness, public library, culture and communication awaits you..."
The audio recordings were made in the 'Neukölln Arcaden' outside the stores, on the several floors with the people circulating, "a babble" amongst shopping noises of many diverse people who with their mobile phones and shopping carts rush past through the halls, at this meeting point in Neukölln where diverse nations, cultures, "a rich cluster" gather. A polyphony of languages, a contemporary document of the multicultural vibrancy of Neukölln in 2010.

Video Documentation by the ohrenhoch-Kids and Knut Remond
SoundCake documents the processual development of the production "Sound Cake, Sound Cabbage, Sound Banana, Sound Apple, U7" by the ohrenhoch-Kids in 2010, lasting several months, presented on the occasion of the celebration of 650 years Neukoelln at the art festival '48-hours-Neukoelln' in June 2010, in 'ohrenhoch – the Noise Shop'.
The ohrenhoch-Kids of age 8 - 13, equipped with two sound recorders, two headphones and two boom poles, in 2010 undertook acoustic rambles and field recording excursions, across the pulsating Berlin-Neukoelln every week, collecting sounds in streets, on squares, in the subway, in parks and buildings.
A small handy camera (Kodak Zi8) was used, alternately by Knut Remond (director of the ohrenhoch-Kids) and by the children (ohrenhoch-Kids) themselves, filming as well during their sound reccordings.
SoundCake documents how the ohrenhoch-Kids produced sound objects and sound-space-installations with their field recordings – the conjunction with acoustic-visual objects.
SoundCake was presented at the 5th International Symposium by 'Forum Klanglandschaft' (19-22 May 2011 in Florence, Italy) to a professional audience. The public premiere of SoundCake took place at 'ohrenhoch - the Noise Shop' on 29 May 2011.
